5 Recent Life Lessons & Thoughts:

  1. Romanticising Your Life - Life will very easily pass you by if you do not make an active effort to enjoy it. Although one of the greatest blessings we are bestowed; it can often get overwhelming, confusing & difficult at times. Shit happens and that’s okay. Regardless, always make an effort to experience the things you derive the most joy from & find appreciation for the everyday moments. Having priorities, building appropriate foundations and working hard are all important factors of life; but never forget to also live, love and laugh whilst you do these things. No one will do them for you. Take yourself out for dinner, purchase the experiences & items you’ve always wanted, start completing your bucket list, spend time with those that make you laugh. The list goes on. Many view ‘romance’ as something that is reserved for when you’re in a relationship with your significant other. But we often forget, the first relationship we ever get into is the one with ourselves.

  2. Courage - The single most important attribute for success and fulfilment. Many often mistake being a ‘courageous’ person for someone that is totally fearless and isn’t scared of anything. They often reserve the word to describe people they view as almost untouchable and perfect. In actuality, it is the complete opposite. Courage is cultivated by taking action through fear. Understanding that a particular event or situation may absolutely terrify you, but attempting it regardless. Courage also has no limitations and comes in all shapes and forms. It is not only confined to overcoming the generic physical fears such as heights, public speaking, needles, etc. It runs a lot deeper; allowing yourself to love and be vulnerable, admitting you’re wrong and taking responsibility, facing past traumas, overcoming self limiting beliefs, battling addiction, standing up for your yourself, forgiving people. The list goes on. These are the signs of a truly courageous individual. "Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’" – Mary Anne Radmacher.

  3. The Beauty Of Age - “The secret to life is enjoying the passage of time.” - James Taylor. Whenever age is the topic of conversation, it’s often discussed as something that is almost negative and that you should be scared of. When in reality, it is one of the greatest privileges of life. With age comes the accumulation of countless memories, lessons learned, and stories lived, each contributing to a profound understanding and appreciation of life. The lines and wrinkles we go on to develop symbolise a lifetime of laughter, tears, and resilience. There is also a serene confidence that often accompanies age, a comfort in one's own skin and a deep appreciation for the present moment. The beauty of age is also found in the relationships and connections that have been nurtured over time, in the love and friendships that have endured and grown stronger. It’s a reminder that every stage of life has its own unique story and value. Age should be celebrated for the perspective it brings and the enduring spirit that continues to learn, grow, and inspire. The occurrence of age also does not mean you have to lose your youthful spirit, that is something you can retain forever. When it’s all said and done, you’re the only person that will decide wether you age with class and grace or with bitterness and spite. The choice is completely yours.

  4. Documenting Your Memories - Such an overlooked activity, yet so important. Time tends to cause us to forget some of our greatest memories and experiences. Documenting them is a way of honouring the moments that define us and ensuring that significant events are cherished long after they occur. Making a habit of taking pictures and videos ensures we’ll always have a reference point for each chapter of our lives. There are countless ways in which to do this; buying a physical photo album and printing out your pictures, collecting videos to make a yearly recap, vlogging trips and holidays, scrapbooking, journaling, etc. Whatever you prefer, as long as you have something to look back on and appreciate in years to come.

  5. The Importance Of Deadlines - An extremely effective way to beat procrastination. The reason we usually never get around to completing tasks and projects is due to the lack of checkpoints we provide ourselves to aim for. It is not enough to merely state you want to achieve a specific goal. Introducing an actual plan and time limit for it to be executed allows for a greater sense of urgency, focus and motivation. With a clear timeframe in place, we’re more encouraged to appropriately prioritise tasks and manage our progress effectively. Instead of convincing ourselves that we will eventually ‘have time to do it later’. Regularly monitoring progress against deadlines also allows for timely adjustments to be made and ensures that projects actually stay on track for successful completion.
